MARQUEE PARTY LIGHTS

We are super stoked to show you how we made these P+B party lights. Marquee lights can be SO expensive and this is a super fun hack that you can do to cut costs and personalize your message.

Tools:

+cardboard letters

+spray paint (any color, but we love using rustoleum paints because they look like metal/stone)

+exacto knife (We only had a box cutter this time and it worked fine)

+scissors

+string bulbs (these are from Target)

STEP 1: We found these hollow cardboard letters at Hobby Lobby, but they can also be found at Joanne's fabric.

Step 2: With the exacto knife, carve out the face of each letter. We only had a box cutter on hand, which was a bit hard to cut with, so I did not leave an edge on each face. It looks really cute when a small edge is left, it is just can be hard to achieve a straight line.

As you can see the edge is not even, so this is where you can take your scissors and trim up any edges to make them clean.

(We wanted a plus sign and they did not have one, so we turned an F into one!)

Step 3: Paint the letters. Make sure to paint every surface, it can be tricky to get everything unless you do a few coats. We used spray paint and it only took a few minutes to spray and dry. Normal paint works as well, just make sure that it is completely dry on every surface before moving to the next step.

Step 4: Measure and mark where you would like the bulbs to go. We did them close together, but we have seen some super cute ones with less lights! Once you have all of the markings in place, make an "X" on each spot with the knife.

Step 5: Pop one lightbulb through each hole. (If the "X" is not big enough you can cut a small circle where you want the lightbulb to be pushed through.)

Step 6: Once you have every lightbulb in, attach the backs to the lightbulbs, plug it in, and enjoy!

We dig this paint because it looks like metal! No one will know that you spent less than $20 on this beautiful sign and it is the perfect touch to every party!

Bulbs- $10

Letters- $1.50 each (they are 50% off every other week at Hobby Lobby)

Paint-$5

We would love to see what you create for your party, event, or just the gallery wall at home!

xoxo,

Suzy&Sydney
